Basil With a Pretty Amazing Twist
Twist and Shout
I recently got the chance to go and review this restaurant called Basil with a twist in Chennai. I have to say it was amazing. One of the better Italian joints in town. A must Visit. I’ll take you through the three-course meal with many dishes in each course one by one in this post. May your taste buds stay hungry but not foolish. I just hope you can make it through the post without reaching for that phone and ordering something to eat. I saw some sort of a middle eastern influence in the food which I have to say is a pretty good twist. Maybe it’s Mr. Bogdan (He refers to himself as the foreigner) if it is him, then I’d say add some more twists. We were welcomed by him and his humbleness and were politely asked if we’d skipped lunch (which we did). It was a good idea skipping lunch that day because boy! What a spread it was.
Starters
So, there were three starters that we were served which were
Pita and Garlic bread with cheese spinach and corn dip
Swedish meat balls
The beautiful Bruschetta Platter
This was good, very good in fact so good that I ate it all. Three kinds of toppings over a slightly hard toasted garlic bread salsa with fresh mozzarella, hummus and some sort of tart olive mash (I think).
Mains
The spaghetti carbonara |
Herb Rice with veggies in white sauce |
This was definitely a highlight in the mains section, the chicken was succulent, juicy and cooked to perfection. Subtle flavors were what I was looking for when I stepped in to this place and subtle flavors were what I got. I'm not sure what that red sauce was around it maybe it was Sriracha anyway I loved how it cut through the easy going flavors like a knife trough butter. We were also served veggies with mash, I personally am not a big fan of mashed potatoes but my friend really liked it.
Dessert
Im sure right about now you're hungry and your cursing this guy who's just passionate about food and photography. Why don't you go get yourself a cookie. Get yourself a cookie you deserve it and keep going through the post for some amazing desserts.
Choco lava cake with homemade vanilla Ice cream
Now this, this I like its beautiful like an amazing woman it is soft it is tender and is full of contrasts with the hot cake and the cold ice cream with the tiny black dots in the vanilla ice cream that suggests its good Ice cream, Then the cake, Man the cake open it up and the lusciousness of the chocolate can not be put in words. I'm going there again, just for this.
